Intro to my Work

From previously studying the BA (Hons) Course in Games Design at UCLan, I gained many valuable skills. Such as 3D modelling, knowledge of programmes (MAYA, UE4, substance design and ZBrush), character and environmental concept design. However, it is 3D modelling more specifically which I want to specialise in within my Masters, as I gained the most enjoyment and skill within the area.

I enjoy creating and modelling all variations of 3D concepts; however, I do enjoy modelling environmental scenes more. I find these are more enjoyable and I am able to create a world of my own choosing. For example, the styles which I enjoy are, Steampunk, post-apocalyptic, industrial etc. I enjoy these styles more so because they are more interesting and unique to create. Combining the past and the future is exciting to see while in both the modelling process and the finished product.

At this moment in time, I am in the process of researching ideas which are all focused around the themes which I suggested earlier. (Steampunk, industrial concepts etc). The creation of scenes and props will be the main focus.

I will be taking inspiration from:

Films and television programmes such as ‘Mad Max’ ‘Sherlock Holmes’ ‘Peaky Blinders’
The derelict and isolated desert scenery as shown in 'Mad Max: Fury Road' (2015)

A still from the film 'Sherlock Holmes' (2006) - the industrialised features of the Victorian London skyline

A still from the television show, 'Peaky Blinders' (2013-Pres)

Games ‘BioShock infinite’ ‘Guns of Icarus Alliance’ ‘The Order:1886’

A still taken from the trailer for 'BioShock Inifnite" (2013)

An in-game still taken from the game 'BioShock Infinite' (2013)

A still taken from the game 'Guns of Icarus Alliance' (2012)
A still taken from the game 'Guns of Icarus Alliance' (2012)

A still showing the environmental scene of Paris in the game 'The Order: 1886"
A still showing the environmental scene of London in the game 'The Order: 1886"

Using these references, I hope to build an environment with rops and other objects which will move and create a living environment.  The industrialised scenes of the games shown above, 'Sherlock Holmes' and 'The Peaky Blinders' will be a major influence in my work, adding elements of steampunk later on in the process.

Car dashboard

Car dashboard In between the first and the second cut scene, there will be a couple of shoots which will be the dashboard of the car. The dash dashboard will show the car spend and the rest below is an example of what the view will see the purpose is to show more detail and movement in the video for the end experience. And some station shots to mix up the footage. After researching car chases sense in films they all ways how the inside of the cars or the dashboard, this is because it keeps the point of forces of what’s happing and changers it over standard outside shots, this keeps the action up to and the view more entailed in the what’s happing or what’s going to happen. A good example of this is a film called Baby Driver   From Baby driver, I notice that you can show the viewer a lot of information in a very short period which makes sense. In the opening scene, it shows what the action which the driver is going to do before it happens. Below I have taken screen sh...

Concept art Research

I have been looking at concept art to gain an idea to create my own designs of an airship. Looking at works on Artstation specifically, there are an array of works that I have taken influence from with elements of colour, style, shape etc. I have found this very useful in the researching process and will continue to refer back to these concepts throughout my project to keep a consistent relation to these ideas.  The links to each artist's page will be shown in correlation to the images used.  Felipe Marques-  https://www.artstation.com/artwork/6GD6r Eddie Del Rio -  https://www.artstation.com/kackey22 Le Vuong -  https://www.artstation.com/artwork/9vlBN Thomas Chamberlain- Keen -  https://www.artstation.com/artwork/3DORJ Karol Miklas -  https://www.artstation.com/artwork/AeXXq Eddie Mendoza -  https://www.artstation.com/artwork/2oXxJ Lincoln Renall -  https://www.artstati...

Maya Modelling

Maya modelling Throughout the project I have been using Maya to model all my assets. I have also use ideas created by artists as inspiration for this. https://www.artstation.com/artwork/v86vv https://www.artstation.com/artwork/OPQnk The process that I have taken has been to draw out sketches of the environment which I want to create. To achieve this, I did research to make sure at all of my ideas were in the same aesthetic. The reason that I did all this was to keep all my work as close to contexts as possible and to have the same theme as ‘steampunk’.
