semester 3 project idea

3 Semester projects
Firstly, I am going to have a different approach to the project. This will entail on building the movement around the environment rather than having the idea of the movement than putting it in the environment.
In addition to this, I want to have to the end product as a short story which will be on the lines of my inspiration for the project (super 8) NOTE: this will be a short clip which I want to recreate, so parts won't the be the same as the movie but the main actions which the viewer will see will be created from the storyline. Also, I am going to add more the scene which isn’t true to the storyline of the film but doesn’t happen, IE the timeline of the events.

The overall goal for the project
To design and recreate small 15 – 30 seconds clips which will be all be put together to make a small film. Each clip will be a small story snippet from the film, below is the ideas which I’ve chosen.

The Ideas for each clip
Ruff idea of what the storyline that ill be recreating.
·         Car cut scene
·         Arriving at the town
·         Seeing the train crash
·         All metal parts will move the water tower
·         Alien will appear at the water tower
·         the spaceship will fly off into space

The progress from the screenshots to the individual senses
From researching the movie and taking screenshots, I started the progress of splitting up the different images senses which I want to create.

Below is the brief of what will happen
1)      Starting with the car which is travelling into the town. B-roll shots of it moving and the detail of the car. This will be very simple senses but importing for the storyline and setting the senses.
2)      Car getting hit by the train which goes through the town. This will give the first action in the senses as the viewer will be able to see a lot happing. Explosion, train, and carriage flying around.
3)      After the train crash, one of the carriages will start to open, this is when the alien will appear. The player will not see it but will know what it is once they get towards the end, making the viewer think!
4)      Metal parts will start to move and start to head over to the water town, starting from little to bigger pieces of metal. The water tower will be where the alien spaceship will be and will launch from.
5)      The spaceship will launch and head up to space. Size and lights will be key to show the scale of the spaceship.

For all the senses they will be heavily B-Roll shots and will show the detail of the models and the movement in the senses

The movement
In each sense, the viewer will be able to see movement, from the last two projects I had a heavily involved moment which had many changes. For this project, there will be a subtle movement which will be highlighted throughout the video.
There will be general movements like cars, trains, and spaceships. Within this, there will be some key movement which will entail more to the storyline, like license plate falling and spinning in the ground. This is one of the examples and from each clip, there will be one special movement

First cut scene

Semester 3 overall First cut scene -what is in the scene? ·          Road ·          Telephone lines ·          Car ·          Train lines ·          Foliage… Grass, Bushes, Wheat, tress The special movement will be the license plate spinning on the ground   Second cut scene ·          Train ·          Train crossing The special movement will be the car getting nearly getting hit by the train   Throughout the end experience, I looked at how I can present the result this was for a couple of reasons. Firstly, how to present my work in the format that I wanted to show the viewer the action and how to keep the audience engage with during the video. I looked at how movies did this in car chases in film and I notice that you try and use the environment as much as possible. Following the terrain, seems to make it smooth and flowing through the environment and it shows off where is it set. Secondly using the body lines on the car and getting the movement of the curves. Using the camera and fol

Environments : The process of creating my scene.

Environments Through the process of researching and designing the environment, I first started by looking at a similar scenes which featured the steampunk style. Below are some examples of the work I looked at, https://www.artst a tion.com/artwork / XwRrn https://www.artstation.com/artwork/EVGWn8 The pictures above are some examples of artists work. I have used these to help me along as it gives me insight into the gaming industry and more specifically what they are currently creating at the moment, following on I will attempt to use some of these sources to influence and inspire my own work. I have found environments through my research, examples which can be seen in games such as ‘the order’ and ‘Guns of Icarus Alliance’. These games fit into a very similar genre and aesthetic as how I want to take my project. Taking note on how these levels and the environment are made and the layout of the room. I have been separating these environ

Rigging

Rigging Alongside the animations, I have used rigging in Maya. Rather than just using the more simplistic animations, rigging allows me to create more realistic movements. For example, chains and belts. I have gained knowledge of how to use pully belts as a rig effectively, as well as creating smooth transitions for the pully belt moving around the wheels. I felt it best to prioritise this transition as it would effectively create a juddered game experience for the player if it was not smooth.  I found that while doing this process, I found it easy enough to grasp the main concept of it, however further on into the more complex issues, I found it more difficult to grasp.   It has been a slow learning experience as there are so many options for adjustments within the rigging process.
