From start to finish the struggles that I faced.
At first, I felt like I was achieving throughout the project, in terms of research and designs. This is because I have followed a similar method that I have used previously. I started on the 3D modelling of the train and was making really good progress - this was when we were still in Uni. I knew that I would have to make a start on the animation, as this the most challenging part of the project. This is because it is both the main reasoning behind this project (movement in an environment scene) and also because it can either make or break a design. However, once the animation process started, I felt lost in what I was doing, (this may have been due to my lack of knowledge in the area of animation). I felt like I was struggling on my own in this regard. Due to the unforeseen circumstances of COVID-19, my next issue was with communication. The limited chats through Microsoft Teams proved ineffective in helping me further due to the very narrow window of time to talk about the very specific problems I was facing.
Throughout the process of animating, I came across numerous problems. The main issue which I was faced with was the exporting of the animation and importing it into UE4. Trying to sort this out alone was and it still something I’m having trouble with.
In the meantime, everything else in the project was being rushed, from the finishing off the modelling to the texturing, following onto trying to figure out how to make it move in UE4 felt impossible to achieve. And through this, I had an essay to write which is not a strong point for me. This again became a problem in the process of corresponding with practicing artists within the creative industry.
I had a limited amount of people to contact and with that I had the problem of their availability within the current circumstances. It was not guaranteed I would gain a response, something which was vital for my written work. I worked right up the extended deadline which could indicate how much I struggled with it.
After all this I have managed to put my work together, but as a pattern this semester, it doesn’t seem to function in the way I aimed.
This has been a long explanation of the problems faced within my project, which usually I would not do. However, I’m using this platform in the place of a face-to-face meeting with my tutors. This part of the process usually is very helpful for me to understand how to go on from where I was, but because of the circumstances, I’m missing this step.
This project has been a struggle, but I really look forward to future projects, applying what I learnt in terms of moving on from this semester.
